Famous boxers USA

We all heard the stories about big strong men that fight in the arena and some of us have also seen it. But what exactly is boxing? Boxing is a rough combat sport, where usually men that are in the same weight category are fighting each others using their fists. Some people also refer to boxing as martial arts. There are simpler rules in boxing and three ways to win a fight: by knocking out the adversary, which means that he won’t be able to get up until the referee counts to ten seconds; the second way to win a fight is by technically knocking out your adversary, which happens when the other fighter is too injured to be able to continue; and if none of the opponents gets knocked out, the referee or some judges can decide who the winner is.

Boxing career isn’t easy and you literally have to fight if you want to advance. Even though there can be lots of inconveniences in this kind of business, like periodic hospitalization because of the wounds, there are people who managed to build a great career out of it and even became famous. Tomas Hearns made history by conquering 5 world titles in 5 different divisions. There are other names in the boxing world that are worth being mentioned: Marvin Hagler (he became an inductee of the World Boxing Hall of Fame), Mike Tyson (undisputed heavyweight champion), Sugar Ray Leonard (Boxer of the Decade in the 1980’), Evander Holyfield (multiple world champion), Ray Mercer (won gold in the Olympics in 1988), Jack Dempsey (held the world heavyweight title for 7 years), Roy Jones Jr. (the only one who started his boxing career as a junior middleweight), and Floyd Mayweather (best pound for pound boxer in the world).

These are the men who managed to make history by achieving numerous titles for their efforts. And they were able to win lots of games only by using brute force and the standard boxing equipment, which for the ordinary viewer, isn’t enough protection. A boxer’s equipment only consists in hand and wrist wraps, gloves and a mouth guard.

Boxing is a very old sport and its predecessors first appeared in the 3rd millennium BC. In the 2nd millennium BC, Egyptians carved on their walls images of fist fights which also had spectators. Looks like since then, men liked to measure their strengths in fist fights and also made shows out of them. Today, boxing is a real career and only really talented people get to be famous.
